Spay/Neuter

While Stray No More's Low Cost Spay/Neuter Program accommodates only domesticated dogs and cats, we often get questions asking, "Where can I go to get feral cats fixed?". The following information will address that issue. Feral cats are "wild" cats; that is, cats that cannot be easily touched by humans or who avoid human contact altogether. Alley Cat Allies, an advocate group based in Bethesda, Maryland, provides extensive information on feral cats, including how to Trap, Neuter, and Release (TNR).

Contact Alley Cat Allies at www.alleycat.org OR by calling 240-482-1980.

Feral cats require specialized care when taken to a vet due to their extreme, sometimes violent, reactions to being handled and transported. Most facilities require that feral cats be transported inside a trap as opposed to a cat carrier. It is advised to NOT attempt to transfer a feral cat from one container to another, as they can easily escape or injure themselves or you.

The following area shelters or veterinarians will spay/neuter feral cats:

Northern Palm Beach County

1.Safe Harbor Animal Sanctuary (Indiantown Road, Jupiter) 561-747-1598

No appointment is necessary, but the cat MUST be transported inside the trap it was caught in. Charge is $55 for either a male or female cat. Additional costs (shots, etc.) may apply. Call the clinic for more information.

Southern Palm Beach County/Broward

2. DPC Veterinary Clinic (Davie, FL) 954-989-9879

No appointment is necessary, and the clinic is open 7 days a week! Feral cats MUST be transported inside the trap. DPC can often accommodate more than one cat per day per person. If the surgery schedule is full the day you bring the cats in, they can be boarded overnight for $10 and seen for surgery the following day. Cost is $35 for a spay or neuter and $10 for a rabies shot. They spay/neuter domesticated cats there for a slightly higher cost. This clinic is great for those people wanting to get many cats fixed.

3. Humane Society of Broward County, FL   954-463-SPAY

This facility requires an appointment. Call the phone number above and leave your contact information. Within five days, someone will call you back and make your appointment. Cost is $45 for a cat spay or neuter (feral or domesticated)

Mid-Palm Beach County

4. Midcounty Veterinary Hospital  (Okeechobee Blvd.) 561-798-8000

Midcounty will spay or neuter feral cats at the present price of $49 for a male and $75 for a female. Please call the clinic for further information.
