Steps to follow to rescue a stray animal.
1. Be sure animal does not have an owner. Call ACC (233-1200) to report, and run an
ad in the paper. List your phone number, brief description of animal. People will try to claim an animal that is not theirs.
(need we say more?) If it seems this is their animal, they will need positive proof (Rabies Tag, Picture, etc.).
2. If
animal is not claimed, take to vet, get shots, test, spay/neuter. Use Stray-No-More's Spay/Neuter
Low Cost Program to save money!
Call us for information.
3. Run an ad in the paper. Advertise pet in human terms. List your phone number,
and adoption fee. Never give an animal away for free! If a person cannot afford adoption fee, how can they afford to take
pet to vet, food, etc. Do not answer the phone, let your machine pick up the calls so interested people have to leave their
phone number for you to call them (this helps eliminates bunchers - people who sell pet for animal experimentation.)
4. Use our
Adoption Form, and Pet Placement Agreement. Make as many copies as necessary and have people answer every question.
5.
If people are interested, have them come see the pet. Then do a Housecheck before you let the pet go. Have them sign the
code of standards and collect adoption fee if all goes well. Supply all medical records, and follow-up.
